Band History
GRAVEN IMAGE
were formed in the summer of 1994 by Gian Pyres.
The
Original line up was dogged with personnel changes during
this time until the stable line up of Gian (Guitars),
Jeff (Guitars), Will (Bass), Mark (Drums) and Simon
(Vocals) was brought together by Gian and Will to form a
Doom metal band in the mould of their idols, SOLITUDE
AETURNUS, THE OBSESSED and BLACK SABBATH.
After
writing two songs, Gian and Simon received an offer to
join Bradford Doom Metal band SOLSTICE on the eve of
recording their first album, LAMENTATIONS for Candlelight
records. Gian and Simon decided to join Solstice while
Mark and Will would return to Mourn who were busy
preparing the material for their first album. This would
leave Jeff with the name `Graven Image' and the task of
rebuilding a line up for the band.
Apart
from a few appearencies with other bands, and due mainly
to line up problems, Graven Image was never fully
re-incarnated
That was
until 1998 when Jeff, busy working with Nick Saunders
(Guitar) on some material for a, as then untitled
project, came across Simon on the internet and
immediately the two began to discuss reforming Graven
Image. Preliminary discussions led to the decision to
record their first demo using computer technology to
replace the missing line up and to do a semi-professional
job at producing what the band hopes is the beginning of
an epic journey into the realm of Doom Metal
Vicki
Coombe joined the band to provide backing vocals and to
assist in the running of the band, merchandise and
promotion, a task that she has taken to with uncanny
ability (this web site for instance....).
Writing
of the demo is well underway with recording due to start
in the spring of 1999. The first demo, entitled `Abjured'
contains the tracks `Another Bloody Sunrise', `Martyr',
`Damnate&Divine', `One Day', `Ostracised' and the
epic track `Shadow across the Summerlands'. Two cover
versions are expected to be recorded for the demo which
are to be announced at a later time.
